Zimmer® MIS Anterolateral Hip Procedure

The Zimmer MIS Anterolateral Hip Procedure is designed to facilitate implantation though a smaller incision, as compared to traditional total hip arthroplasty, while sparing the muscles and tendons around the hip.  This surgical technique uses the interval between the tensor fascia latae and gluteus medius muscles (sometimes referred to as the Watson-Jones interval), and the incision can be easily extended.  Instrumentation and implants will include a choice of one of the following: Zimmer® M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis, Zimmer® M/L Taper with Kinectiv ® technology, Trabecular Metal™ Stem, or Fitmore® Hip Stem; used in conjunction with either the Trabecular Metal™ Modular Acetabular Cup or the Trilogy® Fiber Metal Acetabular Cup.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • identify anatomical landmarks and interval used for the MIS Anterolateral Procedure
  • define the five acts of leg positioning
  • identify potential issues that may arise during the procedure and effective solutions
